Each year on 22nd October, the world comes together to recognise International Stammering Awareness Day (ISAD), a global initiative to raise awareness about stammering and the challenges faced by those who stammer. At Action for Stammering Children (ASC), we are proud to support this cause, and this year, we have organised an exciting range of events and activities throughout October to celebrate and spread the word.

Whether you’re a person who stammers, a supporter, or someone wanting to learn more, this month is packed with opportunities for you to get involved. Here’s what we’ve got planned!

Raising Awareness Through Fun: Join Our ISAD Pub Quiz!

Kicking off our celebrations is our popular ISAD Pub Quiz on 24th October at The Clerkenwell Tavern. This is your chance to show off your knowledge, have some fun with friends, and help raise awareness about stammering in a relaxed, social environment. The Pub Quiz is not just about fun—it’s also about raising vital funds to support the work we do with children who stammer. With tickets priced at £5 per person or £20 per team (teams of up to 6 people), it’s an easy and enjoyable way to contribute to a meaningful cause.

Launch of the Stammer Awareness Toolkit for Schools

Supporting young people in educational settings is one of our key priorities. On 23rd October, we are launching our brand-new Stammer Awareness Toolkit with a dedicated webinar. This toolkit is a free, interactive resource designed to help primary schools create a more supportive and inclusive environment for children who stammer. The webinar will feature a live demonstration of the toolkit and provide guidance on using it effectively.

MyStammerStory Campaign: Sharing Personal Experiences

The MyStammerStory campaign is a platform for individuals who stammer to share their personal journeys, offering insight into the diverse experiences of living with a stammer. Throughout October, we will be featuring a selection of stories on our blog and social media channels. By amplifying these voices, we aim to highlight the strengths, resilience, and varied experiences of the stammering community.

ASC at the Brighton Marathon 2025

As part of our ongoing efforts to raise funds and awareness, we are thrilled to have secured places in the Brighton Marathon on 6th April 2025. Although this event is a few months away, we are using ISAD to kick off our marathon recruitment. Running in support of ASC is a great way to show solidarity and contribute to vital services that make a real difference in the lives of children who stammer.

The Stammering Support Hub: Accessible Guidance and Support

Our Stammering Support Hub continues to offer information, guidance, and direct support for families, young people, and professionals. The Hub is staffed by our Support Hub Advisor, Grace, who is available for one-on-one support every weekday morning. The Hub is a key resource, offering answers to frequently asked questions, practical advice, and a wealth of knowledge for those seeking help and understanding.

Making a Difference Together

International Stammering Awareness Day is not just about one day—it’s about continuing the conversation and advocating for the support and understanding of people who stammer. At ASC, we believe in creating a world where children who stammer can thrive and be proud of their voices. This month’s activities reflect our commitment to this mission, bringing together awareness, education, and community engagement.

We hope you’ll follow along with our activities and help us spread the word. Together, we can build a more inclusive and supportive environment for children and young people who stammer.
