Approximately 8% of children experience stammering during childhood, impacting their confidence, classroom participation, and overall educational experience. At Action for Stammering Children (ASC), we aim to raise awareness about stammering and provide schools with tools and strategies to support children who stammer.

What is the Stammer Awareness Toolkit?

The Stammer Awareness Toolkit is an interactive, online resource for primary schools in England, developed with input from young people who stammer, their parents, teachers, and speech & language therapists. It helps create a supportive and inclusive environment for students who stammer.

Key Features

Access: One-year access to the toolkit via an online portal for senior leadership teams, teachers, and teaching assistants.

Modules: Four comprehensive modules that staff can complete at their own pace.

Content: Interactive materials, practical strategies, and information about local services and organisations.

Benefits for Schools

  • The toolkit offers significant benefits for pupils, staff, and the entire school community:
  • Enhances understanding of stammering and effective support strategies.
  • Builds staff confidence in supporting children who stammer.
  • Encourages participation of pupils who stammer in classroom activities.
  • Helps pupils realise their educational potential.
  • Contributes to inclusivity efforts and demonstrates commitment to inclusion.
  • Fosters confidence and acceptance of differences among all pupils.
  • Provides practical ideas to develop communication confidence.

Thanks to our donors, the Stammer Awareness Toolkit is free for schools for the first year. This is a limited-time offer, so early registration is encouraged.
