Supporter Jason Avbulimen recently took part in our Atacama Virtual Challenge, choosing to complete an ultramarathon in support of Action for Stammering Children (ASC).

My name is Jason Avbulimen. I’m into endurance running and so far I’ve completed three marathons and three ultramarathons. In September 2024, I took part in the Atacama Virtual Challenge by running an ultramarathon that pushed me physically and mentally. The Atacama Virtual Challenge ran from 25 April to 25 May and invited people to log any human powered activity such as running, walking or cycling, to collectively match the Atacama Team’s distance. It was inspired by the Into Clean Air expedition led by ASC Stambassador, Dr Alan Crofts, and raised awareness and funds for Action for Stammering Children.

My sister does a lot of work with Action for Stammering Children as a member of the ASC youth panel, so I’m familiar with what the charity does and what it stands for. ASC supports children and young people who stammer, their families, and the communities around them. Young people are the future, and that is why I chose to run for ASC. I wanted to raise awareness and give the charity more exposure by sharing the challenge with my followers, friends, and local community.

The Atacama Challenge had a big impact on me. It gave me a deeper understanding of ASC’s work and connected me with many positive, like-minded people who care about making a difference.

Looking back, my reflections are all positive. The challenge encouraged people to exercise, raised awareness about stammering, and brought people together around a shared cause. I’m proud to have been part of something meaningful, and I’d encourage anyone to get involved if they can.
