ASC Mentoring 2024 - Mentor Application - Action for Stammering Children

Thank you for your interest in applying for the Action for Stammering Children 2024-2025 mentoring programme.

By becoming a mentor to a young person who stammers, you play a pivotal role in helping them achieve their aspirations and navigate the transition into their chosen career.

Each mentor will be paired with a young person who stammers during the 6-month programme. Mentees are aged between 18 and 25 and will typically be those looking ahead to higher education or beginning their career.

This scheme is fully funded by Action for Stammering Children.

We welcome applications from adults who are living openly with their stammer and have advice and guidance to offer to a young person who stammers. The mentoring relationship is a rewarding one for the mentor as much as for the mentee.

We are committed to carefully matching our mentees and mentors, so please provide as much information in this form as you can, including your reasons for wanting to mentor a young person who stammers.

What do you hope to achieve or help mentees accomplish through your mentorship?

The third cohort of the programme will kick-off in October 2024 and conclude in April 2025. During this time, you will meet online with your mentee a minimum of 6 times. The programme launches with a half day online briefing session on 11th October 2024 and a mid-programme review on 15th January 2025 will give you an opportunity to reconnect with other mentors. There will also be a mentor evaluation session and a closing celebratory event on 2nd April 2025.

We are grateful to all of our volunteers for giving their time to support young people who stammer. We also appreciate that your time is valuable and want to ensure that you are aware of the time commitment involved in being a mentor on the programme. There are a few key things we ask mentors to commit to before applying:

• You are available to participate in the programme between October 2024 and April 2025.

• You are available to attend the initial online training event on 11th October 2024.

• You are available to attend the online mid-programme review on 15th January 2025.

• You are available to attend the online programme evaluation session and closing event on 2nd April 2025.

• You are available to meet with your mentee online a minimum of 6 times over the course of the programme.

• You agree to the charity undertaking a DBS check as per their safeguarding policy.
