NEWS: Action for Stammering Children appoints Ria Bernard as Chief Executive
We are delighted to share with you today the appointment of Ria Bernard as the new Chief Executive of Action for Stammering Children (ASC). In appointing her from a strong field of applicants, the Trustees commented on the strength of her vision for the charity, and her clinical and public policy experience. Ria is a Speech and Language Therapist by background with five years’ experience working with children and young people in schools across London, as well as time spent in leadership roles in political campaigns and public policy.
She joins ASC after three years working towards a PhD at University College London (UCL), focusing on the association between stammering and risk of adverse mental health in children.
While undertaking her PhD, Ria led ASC’s policy output, including recent research publications, events and projects currently underway. She brings a thorough understanding of the stammering and wider speech and language community, with extensive academic and clinical networks.
Her previous experience in leadership roles within public policy will also ensure she is well-placed to act as a public advocate for the Charity and its work.
Ria and the rest of the team at ASC are looking forward to working with our partners and stakeholders to continue to support and improve the lives of children and young people who stammer in the UK.
