Congratulations Phoebe and Team Rickshaw!
They’ve done it! Team Rickshaw have completed the entire 423 miles of their epic 8 day journey and reached Salford in time for the Children in Need Appeal Show on Friday.
And what an incredible journey it was. All six of the young people, Abby, Harry, Kayla, Keiran, Maisie, and of course, our very own Phoebe, showed immense courage and determination along the way, fighting their way through torrential rain and some rather grueling hills!
We are all immensely proud of Phoebe and couldn’t be happier to have her as an ambassador for our charity. She showed real confidence and bravery during some really challenging times, namely her amazing speech during the X Factor where she spoke about her experience with a stammer in front of a huge audience. We’ve no doubt she’s been an inspiration to many young people who stammer who were watching.
Phoebe had this to say about this one in a lifetime experience:
“It’s been an amazing 8 days. I am really happy to have been able to take part in this experience. The X factor speech was so empowering. Before joining the charity, it would have been impossible. Since joining, I have grown so much in confidence as an individual and in my speech. Thank you to Action for stammering children for contributing to getting me to where I am. I am honoured to be an ambassador for the charity and will continue to raise awareness. I am determined to continue my work to contribute to creating a world where stammering doesn’t hold you back.”
At ASC, we aspire to give young people the same opportunities and quality of life as their peers. Part of that involves giving them a platform so they can have their say in the important decisions that impact them. We’re so honoured to have been able to help Phoebe on her journey and to have played a part in her participating in this year’s Rickshaw Challenge, where she has helped us raise awareness of stammering in a remarkable way, and contributed to Children in Need raising more than a whopping £50m!
