Youth Panel member, Sion, tells us why the Youth Panel is important to him

Something I would recommend to people who stammer is to tell people about it. What I’ve noticed quite a few times, if I tell people who have known me for a while that I stammer, they often say “Oh, I hadn’t noticed,” which I think is a good thing. It shows that if you yourself think it’s this huge thing that controls you, but actually to other people they hardly even notice. I think that’s a good thing to think about.

Why the Youth Panel is important to me

The Youth Panel is really good because it brings people together who have slightly different experiences. What we’re mainly trying to achieve is to raise awareness to other young people who stammer. I think it’s important that people are aware that this exists and that it’s not some sort of nerves thing, a lot of people say “Oh, he’s only nervous,” but it’s not, it’s a natural thing. So, to raise awareness of stammering is really positive.
